Confessions of a Bad Ass Babe: Tuesday Bassen

Inspired by go-getters and badass babes in general, this series is basically me spending time with women who built and followed their own yellow brick road (and then re-painted it the color they wanted when it was finished). From how they're Buffy the Vampire slaying it, to who they've been double-tapping on instagram. I get to the bottom of how they became the badass babes they are today.

As my last #Confessionsofabadassbabe post here on ZGLA.com (*tear*), I def. had to hang with the raddest babe in town >> Miss Tuesday Bassen. This bi-coastal phenomenon just hit home in LA and is splattering the town with her amazing illustrations. Besides having the same birthdays (no big deal on the rad meter), Tuesday is the definition of a badass babe. From her cute and sassy characters to her must needed patches and pins, Tuesday oozes raw talent. Her "Ugly Girl Gang" zine is what  initially drew me in, her bad attitude babes exude confidence with the perfect don't mess with me stance. After proudly swiping my credit card for a few of her goodies at a pop-up in LA, I knew I had to sit down with her and pick her badass brain. Read below our convo, and be sure to heart eyes times a million on her 4-legged side kick.

For more heart eyes head to her instagram >> @TuesdayBassen to keep up with her goods (gotta have them ALL) and daily drawings (NEED to see them ALL) <3

When did you start being awesome aka being an Illustrator? What inspired you to pursue illustration as a full-time career?

Ha! I think you’re being generous. Early on, I thought that I wanted to study foreign relations. I took both French and German, served as Captain of the debate team, and studied abroad in Russia by the time I was 14. I started at a public art school by 15 and all other aspirations went out the window. I got my BFA from MCAD in 2011 and have been a professional illustrator since.

Being a freelance artist, what is your daily schedule like?
I try to maintain some level of spontaneity to keep things interesting, but ultimately I bounce between working at home and running errands around Los Angeles.
Usually, it goes a little something like this:
Wake up at my boyfriend Ben’s house, walk our wiener dogs, grab a coffee at Cafe de Leche, answer some emails while traffic dies down, go home to Mid City and ship any orders that piled up overnight, drink too much coffee, work on client projects, shower around 3, drop stock off at local stores (like my favorite, Pygmy Hippo), meet up with a client about a collaboration over a drink, go home and either work more or plan a new project with Tiny Splendor—who are both my roommates and my printers.
I try to surround myself with other creatives so that working becomes downtime and downtime sparks more projects. My boyfriend is an art director and chainstitch embroiderer, so we end up collaborating a lot without trying very hard.

Looks like you always have amazing ideas for new projects. Where do you find inspiration?

I honestly feel most inspired when I’m angry. I definitely hulk out in my sketchbook and end up cracking myself up!
Your female characters are all bad ass and they seem to all carry their own individual attitudes, did any of these characters develop from personal friends or people you’ve met?
I usually just draw them from my imagination, but there are a few people that make frequent appearances. My friend Jillian Newman, for example, is definitely my muse. She’s a foul mouthed and bodacious native New Yorker that I met at age 16 in a pre-college program.

Can you share some female artists that are currently blowing your mind?

Louise Z Pomeroy aka @louisezerg
Jemma Jones aka @wolfspit
Megan Campagnolo aka @rosehoundapparel

When you put down the ink and paper, where do like to hang/chill in LA?

Something I love about LA is that each neighborhood is like it’s own universe. I try not to repeat destinations too often, but I love popping into Pygmy Hippo to shoot the shit with Emi and snacking with friends at Swingers because every lady (especially Barbara, what’s up giiiiirl) that works there is such a badass friendly babe. For drinks, I hit up dive bars with photo booths, because I’m all about cheap thrills.

Most used iPhone app?

Instagram, of course.

Looks like you have a 4-legged buddy, who is he and how awesome is he?!

GUS! He’s pretty great. I got him through Southern California Dachshund Rescue and he is stuck to me like a googly eyed cartoon always. I also have a half blind cat with three teeth named Mischka who is pretty sweet, but Gus is always with me and therefore gets photographed more often.

Give us 3 essentials that Tuesday needs on the daily?

I have a new dress by Osei Duro from Myrtle that I love, Coconut Rose MSM lotion by SunFood, and lots of coffee.

Are there other creative activities you wish to try in the near future?

I’ve already delved into the world of shitty stick n’ pokes, but I think neon bending would be fun!

Name TWO truths and ONE lie about you (In random order so we can guess and most likely guess wrong).

My real name isn’t Tuesday, my favorite snack is raw cashews, I have an extra tooth.

What’s next for Tuesday Bassen, anything cool you can share OR secret stuff your willing to spill beans on?

A few super secret things, but I also have a line coming out with Valley Cruise and a pop up at Madewell, so keep your eyes peeled.

Stay tuned for where #Confessionsofabadassbabe lands next and K.I.T at:
@Eatherbrains
Till next time ladies and gents....keep being badass!

What's LOVE got to do with it? EVERYTHING!

Your June forecast is here and we're talking about that 4-letter word L-O-V-E! Because let's be honest, it's "summer fling" season and we need to know whether to leave our heart at home or not. So read this with caution or with full on heart eyes, either way this will keep your eyes peeled for Cupid.

Horoscopes + photo via the babes from Refinery 29.

Gemini Love Forecast

As much as you love to be part of a perfect pairing, you’ll need more “me time” this June as your independent spirit is called forward. But, absence can indeed make the heart grow fonder — and the affection hotter. As you cultivate your separate interests, you’ll bring intriguing topics of discussion to your dates and mates. Be careful not to create too much distance though, especially while Mercury is in retrograde until the 11th.

At the beginning of the month, a full moon lights up your partnership house and ensures that you don’t push true love away. Your heart will be wide open, and you could manifest someone who wants to go the distance with you. An existing connection could get a new title, too — more like “In A Relationship” than “It’s Complicated” (phew). Strict Saturn gives you some reprieve when it moves out of your partnership house from June 14 to September 17. You’ll feel like your flirty, lighthearted self again, so it’s fitting that Venus will be in your curious, experimental third house from the 5th on. Go ahead and taste the rainbow of options out there. Digital dating brings a higher click-through rate in June, too. Right swipe away! Although the peacocks and players will turn your head early this month, you’ll be ready to give the nice ones a chance after the 22nd. What seemed boring earlier in the month could be sheer heaven later on. Who wants to cuddle under the AC?

Cancer Love Forecast

Let it go, let it go. June’s star map sounds the call for surrender. Relax, Cancer, we aren’t suggesting you dump the love of your life or walk away from a promising prospect, but maybe you’d benefit by not holding on quite so tightly. See what happens if you create a little more breathing room with your boo. Get back into your own creative passions, start meditating, or take guitar lessons. Grounding in your own self-worth is the antidote to the insecurity that inevitably bubbles up when a sensitive soul like you falls in love. Plus, being a teensy bit out of reach makes you a hundred times more desirable.

As for that negligent lover who failed to call after your awesome third date (the one that turned into an extended sleepover)? If you haven’t made amends by the new moon on the 11th, shut the door for good. A bonfire burning of the Black Keys shirt he left at your place wouldn’t hurt either — a jilted Capricorn friend may happily help you heap fuel on that fire. Saturn slips back into your romance house from June 14 to September 17. You’ll be far more discerning about who and what you’ll accept in love. You’ve learned your lessons over the years, and you won’t be making the same mistakes again. This Saturn phase could bring a solid commitment, proposal, or even a pregnancy. Or, you may be attracted to someone a little older or more mature than your usual type. Then, the heat turns up big time at the month’s end. On the 22nd, the brilliant sun enters Cancer, followed by lusty Mars. The six weeks that follow will find you totally in demand. Take the lead in love, and be more assertive about making your fantasies come true.

Leo Love Forecast

Get out and mingle! With a star-powered stack-up in your social 11th house, you won’t have any trouble meeting interesting people this June. So, why not find someone who shares one of your passions or interests? Group participation can bring the bonus of a love connection before the 22nd. You could meet your match through mutual friends this month, too, or reconnect with an old pal only to discover that your bond is far more than platonic this time around. The 11th house is on the tech sector of the chart, so fire up your dating apps and do some right-swiping. Amorous Venus will cruise through Leo from the 5th on, so you’ll be quite in demand. With your magnetism off the charts, clean house of anyone who doesn’t appreciate full-volume Leo. You might even take a short dating hiatus (a few days or weeks even) to regain your connection to numero uno. There’s nothing like being in love with yourself to attract a high-quality selection of admirers. Luck is on your side.

The full moon at the beginning of the month could bring a passionate connection with someone new — or an exhilarating milestone with the one you adore. This full moon falls in your fertile fifth house and could herald a pregnancy. (Double-protect all month if you’re not ready for cradle rocking.) It could also be the moment where you finally fess up to feeling the l-o-v-e. Already spoken for? It takes a village to make a relationship work — provided you have the right people on your team. This month, think about whether your friends are supportive or disruptive to the harmony of your love life. Create some space from people who are always making you second-guess your decision to commit.

Virgo Love Forecast

Newsflash, Virgo: Organizing your dates into a spreadsheet and ranking system isn’t exactly sexy. But, you’ll be feeling rather goal-oriented about affairs of the heart this June, so you might actually go there. (Hey, whatever makes the agonizing process easier…) Getting clear about your longer-term desires would be a smart move. With the sun, Mercury, and Mars in your traditional 10th house, you’re advised to aim high. Someone you considered uptight or too mature a while back could actually be just what the love doctor ordered this month. You’ll be attracted to the power players, too — and a suit-and-tie type might just sweep you off your stilettos near the new moon on the 11th.

If you’re in a relationship, you could start a business with your sweetie or earn your reputation as the enviable power couple in your circle. Be fair warned: Talks could grow serious in June — maybe too much so. If you find yourself getting dragged down by those “Where are the two of us heading?” inquiries, take a break and do something spontaneous. You, too, can spiral out too far into the future. There’s no point in arguing over baby names if you aren’t enjoying each other’s company right here, right now. Slow down, and let things happen in due time.

Libra Love Forecast

Think you have a type, Libra? Guess again. June’s star map is sure to broaden your horizons, proving that you can’t judge a book by its cover. With planets in your global ninth house for much of the month, you could fall head over Dr. Martens for a cutie from another culture. Signed up for summer school? A workshop or seminar could unearth a brainy hottie who loves a good intellectual chat as much as you do. Now’s also the time to post some new pics to your online profile — Venus will tour your tech sector from the 5th on, bringing some promising prospects from the digital realm.

This is the month for a couple’s getaway, so if you’re already spoken for, reserve that double room and get your passports out of storage. One caveat: You might want to wait until Mercury snaps out of retrograde on the 11th to take your sexy sojourn. Whether on vacay or in your home city, get out and socialize more as a pair. This is a fabulous month to co-host a soiree and introduce all your friends to one another. The sun and motivator Mars move into your traditional 10th house for the last week of June. Have “the talk” about your shared future — or ditch the players and save your final rose for someone who can actually go the distance.

Scorpio Love Forecast

Now they see you, now they don’t. With an assembly of stars in your enigmatic eighth house, your mysterious allure is fully deployed. You’re down for the cat-and-mouse games and the drawn-out seductive dance, just don’t be so hard to get that the pursuer gets thrown off your trail. While you’re at it, keep your radar on for power players — a sexy suit could enchant you after the 5th. Truthfully, you’re also jonesing for an intense and passionate connection. But, you’ll need your alone time in between the proverbial “Red Room” romps, thanks to stoic Saturn’s retreat to Scorpio from June 14 to September 17. A little extreme? Yes, but ‘tis the Scorpio way. Be honest about wanting time to focus on numero uno, so your love doesn’t think you’ve pulled a disappearing act.

Coupled Scorpios could feel that urge to merge in more meaningful ways. When Mercury ends its retrograde on the 11th, ring shopping or apartment hunting plans could be underway. The last week of June will be much lighter as the sun and Mars head into your jet-setting ninth house. Book the couple’s getaway or take your sexy single self to a festival, glamp-out, or far-flung city full of attractive strangers.

Sagittarius Love Forecast

Feel like you keep taking two steps forward, one step back? With communication planet Mercury in retrograde in your relationship house until the 11th, June could be off to a confusing start. Ride the wave, Sagittarius, and expect a series of highs and lows. If you stay steady — despite your love interest’s wavering desires and needs — you’ll come through with your heart (and relationship) intact. Don’t spend early June obsessively checking for you-know-who’s texts! With the annual full moon in Sagittarius lighting up the skies, it’s time to pursue your solo passions and interests. Absence most definitely will make the heart grow fonder.

You’re attracted to a wide spectrum of types this month, and with Venus nearby, a cross-cultural romance will simmer with extra spice. Vacationing could bring a bonus perk of romance — don’t rule out the long-distance relationship. After the 24th, the sun and Mars connect in your playing-for-keeps eighth house. If you’re not exclusive (or even putting a ring on it) by then, you’ll be ready to deliver the ultimatum, “Commit to me, or I’m moving on.”

Gym buddy by day, bedroom buddy by night. With a posse of planets assembled in your well-being sector this June, you’re taking “healthy relationship” to a whole new level. Sharing morning smoothies, TRX workouts, and, er, Iron Mans between the sheets will certainly ignite your lit-from-within glow. Just be careful not to overschedule your sweetie or get super rigid about time. Spontaneity is the essence of romance, after all. Single Caps could feel the sparks with the cutie on the adjacent elliptical. Keep those earbuds cranked to a respectable volume so as not to miss that opening line.

Capricorn Love Forecast

Is the ghost of a lover past still haunting you? The full moon at the beginning of the month helps you mourn and release. You might even do a ceremonial purging under this moon. Gather up those birthday gifts, photos, and tattered tees (that still smell faintly of Acqua Di Parma), and let them be the tinder for a beach bonfire. Attracting new love — or stirring up the magic with your amour du jour — will be a snap as Venus slips into your sexy, magnetic eighth house from June 5 on. Keep those little black dresses at the front of your closet, and treat yourself to some new lingerie. This Venus phase makes you a total night owl. Coupled Caps, get your post-workout disco naps in so you can enjoy evenings out, too. The sun and passionate Mars will both be in your relationship sector at the beginning of the month, and things could get serious. Save the talks about the future until June’s final quarter, though — you’ll have a clearer idea of what you want from relationships.

Aquarius Love Forecast

Cupid is most definitely in your corner this June, as the sun, lusty Mars, flirty Mercury, and a new moon all ping your fifth house of true love. Let your low-key, “it’s all good” MO fly out the window. Your desires are bolder and more complex this month — and that’s a good thing. Besides, if anyone could afford to be a little more diva-like, it’s you. Spell out your wishes, both in and out of the bedroom. When you’re clear about your wants and needs, you have a far better chance of getting them met. The new moon on June 11 could bring a promising prospect — or a blast from the past. Mercury will be in retrograde until that same day, which might just lure an old flame back into your orbit. Don’t rush to reconcile or be too quick to say no. Give yourself until the month’s end to see how it all pans out.

June’s stars could also bring a rush of baby fever, even a pregnancy if you’re ready to rock the cradle. Ardent Venus camps out in your commitment zone from the 5th on, so make sure anyone you open your heart to is looking for something more than a spicy summer fling. With stern Saturn slipping back into your ambitious 10th house from June 14 to September 17, finding the balance between work and love could get dicey. And, while you love a big project, if it causes stress in your personal life, scale back, or save it until you’re more prepared to handle the time and expense required. On the 24th, capricious Jupiter forms a lucky triangle with your ruling planet, unconventional Uranus. The element of surprise will work in your favor, so do something unexpected to woo your boo.

 Pisces Love Forecast

Let’s hear it for your girls! This June, having a solid sisterly crew could be the very best thing for your love life. Find the Bella to your Gigi or the Marnie to your Hannah. Your friends will bolster your confidence, keep you in the reality zone, and provide a welcome distraction when you start obsessing over your latest crush or romantic drama. In between girls’ nights out, you could be prepping for your first home visit with your latest love interest or even scoping out apartments for your future cohabitation station. If you’re single, give the nice guys a shot this month. Also, consider creating a blank space in your home to attract a mate. Leave a few empty hangers in the closet and even work a little feng shui magic. Make sure your bed is accessible from both sides, and place pairs of objects around your home to symbolize the power of two.

Meeting the parents could go really well after Mercury ends its retrograde on the 11th. The sun and red-hot Mars zip into your flamboyant fifth house in the last quarter of June, ensuring that your nurturing nature doesn’t take you from hot mama to mommy dearest. Kick off the flip-flops, slip on the Loubs, and go enjoy some sultry date nights on the town. Single Pisces, expect to meet your mate at an upscale event, party, or concert after the 24th.

Aries Love Forecast

Flirt alert! You want to be noticed this June, and you’re willing to make the extra effort in the name of turning heads. Venus spends most of the month in Leo and your fifth house of passion, glamour, and flamboyant style. Dress up and paint the town crimson — whether you’re stepping out solo or with some enviable arm candy. The full moon at the beginning of the month could bring a cross-cultural click or a vacation romance for rams on summer holiday, so keep your ears perked for sexy accents. But, beware: Attracting admirers is the easy part this June. Figuring out which one you like best, however, may leave you feeling like the bachelorette at her first rose ceremony. On the 14th, serious Saturn backs into Scorpio and your playing-for-keeps eighth house. You could have misgivings about a 2014 breakup or not giving a good prospect a chance. Extend the olive branch, and see what can be done to repair the rift.

In a relationship? That doesn’t mean you have to dim your bright lights. Witty banter with handsome strangers makes you feel attractive — and you can bring that mojo back home to enjoy with your mate. This three-month Saturn cycle could bring up some pretty deep discussions with your S.O. about what the future holds. Everything from your romantic fantasies to how you divide the household bills will be on the table. Bottom line: Lust and trust must go hand in hand after the 14th. From the 22nd on, your nesting instincts will come out in full force. Start shopping around for that cute two-bedroom or summer share with your boo. Single Aries, invite your crush for a home-cooked dinner, and watch the romance bloom.

Taurus Love Forecast

June is off to a sultry and intense start for you, Taurus, as a full moon in your eighth house of permabonding brings a relationship to a make-it-or-break-it point. There’s no room for gray here (unless it’s the Fifty Shades variety). Decide for yourself or deliver an ultimatum: Are you in or are you out? The full moon may also herald a more exclusive label for casual connections or a marriage proposal for the coupled Taurus. Follow your urge to merge — or your intuition’s SOS cry to bounce from a bad romance. Thankfully, the rest of the month won’t be so extreme. With a cluster of planets in your grounded second house, you’ll enjoy some delicious courtship rituals and clear signals from the one you adore. Set your Spotify to a slow-jam station — holding hands and cuddling on the couch can be a totally sensual experience. If that pace is too agonizing, don’t worry. It’ll pick up when Mercury ends its retrograde on the 11th.

Coupled bulls will find themselves stressing over money matters early this month. Keep things fair with clear spending agreements, and make sure you aren’t living beyond your shared means. Meanwhile, structure-hound Saturn slips back into your partnership house from June 14 until September 17, making you a lot more serious about the parameters of love. A recurring issue — the one you always seem to fight about — demands real solutions this time. Figuring out a compromise doesn’t necessarily mean splitting things 50/50. Sure, you need your relationship to be fair, but play to your individual strengths, and consider outsourcing some of the things you both hate doing. In the last quarter of June, your flirty nature will come out full force. Whether you’re planning adventurous playdates or Tinder-ing away, variety will be the spice of your love life.

Confession Of A Bad Ass Babe: Amy Pham

Inspired by go-getters and badass babes in general, this series is basically me spending time with women who built and followed their own yellow brick road (and then re-painted it the color they wanted when it was finished). From how they're Buffy the Vampire slaying it, to who they've been double-tapping on instagram. I get to the bottom of how they became the badass babes they are today.

This week we caught up with a triple threat of a babe. A born and raised LA native who is a total slashie: DJ/Model/Host! You might know her from hosting the fashionably savy Youtube series, "The Platform". Yup, we're talking about Amy Pham! We literally had to throw out a bat signal (since she was in London at the time) to get this babe to chill with us for a moment and answer some must-needed questions. Check out what she's currently obsessing with and more below. (PS. If you want to see some behind the scenes of her daily life, including her hilarious videos then follow her on instagram @IAMAMYPHAM - No lie, she got jokes!)

You’re literally a triple threat: DJ/Model/Host, what came first? And is there a favorite from the three?
Why thank you! I just consider myself to be very indecisive. DJ came first and was pretty much the jumping point for everything else. My brother initially taught me and after making a lot of friends in the nightlife scene through DJing, I was asked to model for some local brands. That led to getting signed, going out on auditions, and one of those auditions happened to be for Disney's Maker Studios. I guess they didn't hate me so here I am, host of their fashion show "The Fashion Statement" almost 4 years later!
After a long working day, where do you go (or what do you do) to unwind?
HOME. I am a huge homebody, so I need to have a base where I can decompress, change into PJ's asap, and completely veg out. Snuggles are definitely a must in this department.

You know in movies when girls walk into a party (think Can't Hardly Wait, Jennifer Lawrence), what song would be your party entrance song?
For some reason my first inclination was to say "Gwen Stefani - Hey Baby" without hesitation. But my second choice would probably be anything by Beyonce.

You travel a ton, where in the world have you not yet touched and are dying to go?
Asia! Especially Vietnam, the motherland. I haven't been yet but have been told numerous times I need to.

Which leads me to this question: You’re stranded on a desert island, who would you need with you to survive?
My boyfriend Anthony, duh!

3 emojis that best describe you?

If you had to choose ONLY one, what social media app would you commit to for life?
Instagram!

We all got that THING we can't stop talking about, what's your current obsession/thing you can't stop talking about?
I LOVE CHIMICHURRI SAUCE. I've recently discovered it and it's the best thing ever. I put it on my chicken, my eggs, my rice, literally everything.

Favorite LA hang out for a girls night out?
I haven't gone out in SO long, I'm usually either working/ DJing/ sleeping. But I know my girl Sam (SoSuperSam) throws a helluva night at 143 (Los Globos) and I've been meaning to go for a while.

Zero Gravity is all about elevating your look, what's your favorite accessory?
I love hats. Hats on me, on my boyfriend, I'm a big hat person (especially headscarves for summer and beanies for winter)

Working long days could be brutal without some power snacks/food, what would you have delivered to you daily (from anywhere – even flown out) if you could?
QUEST BARS. They're the best protein bars ever and anytime I'm running around town or traveling, I absolutely make sure that I have at least 6 bars in my bag. My favorite flavors are chocolate chip cookie dough and cookies and cream, and they're sooo tasty.

What does the next chapter of “The Adventures of Amy Pham” look like? Any exciting projects coming up?
Hopefully more sleep!!! But always new and exciting things on the horizon, I just live it week by week! I'm supposed to go to Australia (first time ever) soon for a couple campaigns and nightclub events, so that should be fun. I also am launching my actual own Youtube channel, which is very exciting for me since I've never had my own before (I just play host on The Platform). And I have a new show that's set to happen with Maker Studios that involves food... so I'm very very very excited about that! Stay tuned!
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT BADASS BABE!

RAD Moms

Mothers Day is this weekend and it only seems necessary to highlight the RAD moms that we grew up with via the tube (TV). Because deep down, you secretly wished you had a blue haired mom who rocked a green tube top dress like no other (Am I right?). See below the moms who technically watched us everyday after school.

Marge Simpson:

This blue haired bombshell, was always so patient and understanding. With a son like Bart, she for sure won Mother of the year every year.

Peggy Bundy:

Peggy is the polar opposite of Marge, expect the big hair.  Her motherly duties consisted of shopping and watching TV. The infamous nagging wife who used every opportunity to humiliate her husband Al about his job. As dysfunctional as this family was, Peggy did know how to wear spandex with everything and her ahir was a piece of art. A mother who you'd be embarassed of but also proud at the end of the day.

Kitty:

First off, who didn't want to be a teenager in the 70's?! Watching the Forman's made me want to buy all the bell bottoms and knee high socks I could find since Kelso was into that (wink wink). But really, who woud'nt die for a mom named Kitty?! She was beyond halarious and a nurse who always was looking after everyone. The best part was when she got mad, because hearing her little voice blurp out profanity was my favortie part.

Who was your favorite TV mom?

Blame it on the Retrograde: May 2015 Horoscope

Blame it on the Retrograde (Ahhh!).

That's right the 13th will be the day to walk on eggs shells and not take anything too personal. Best advice: It will all be over soon, we promise!

But on the flip side, MAY is here and there are stars aligning for this month. So find your sign and read on because positive vibes are real! The SF babe herself, Jessica Lanyadoo once again graces us with our monthly horoscope:

ARIES

March 21-April 19

Sometimes life kicks you in the can ‘cause shit is hard, and no good other reason. But sometimes there is a greater context for why you’re struggling and if you can find it, it’s like winning a crappy jackpot that actually has a really cool prize. What I’m trying to say is: don’t assume that just because it sucks that you can’t get something deeply good from it. This month, the Fates are testing your will. Hold true to your boundaries and sprinkle a little patience on top, and you’ll have exactly what you need. Get distracted by your ego and push your agenda without regard for what’s going on beneath the surface, and you’ll find yourself driven by compulsion. If that happens, you’ll be unable to endure any kind of wait, or find humor in your situation. So here’s the plan: watch out for your moods distracting you from what you know is right, especially around the 9th when the Moon is likely to ruffle everyone’s feathers. Be true to what you’re feeling, even if you’re not sold that you can get what you want. It’s far better to try and fail then not try at all. Honor your needs while being considerate of other people’s perspective; it’s a delicate balance, but you’re capable of it, Aries. If you believe in the potential of your own happiness you’ll have a much easier time handling your shit in a way that’s likely to get you there. So have faith! Not in happy endings per se, because that Disney shit isn’t real; but in your ability to make choices that give you what you need, even when it looks different than you’re expecting it to.

Power Ballad: Faith – George Michael

TAURUS

April 20-May 20

You’re on call, Taurus. There’s no hiding from your issues or successfully evading consequences this month, so you may as well get on with it. How you respond to the call is all on you, so take note of your reactions, darlin’. Notice if you get scared and try to hide the moment things get real. Do you start looking for blame for crappy things, or is your instinct to find more nuanced answers? No matter what it seems like on the surface, your circumstances are meant to get you better in line with yourself. That means seeking a 2.0’d understanding of how you act, and what you’re really trying to achieve. So get to digging, Bully Bull Bell! Here’s a pro-tip: the avoidance of pain is not the same things as the pursuit of happiness. Just like if a friend promises you that she’ll stop showing up late to everything cuz she knows it pisses you off, it’s not the same thing as her actually changing her relationship to time in a way that’ll get her to show the fuck up. Clarify what you want, and what you’re willing to do to make it happen instead of only thinking about what you’d like to avoid. Make the right decisions for you, even if they’re the harder ones to follow through with. Look especially for meaningful developments with people around the 4th, and if endings occur around then you’re probably best to let that person or thing go. You’re surrounded by love, Taurus, so get out of your own way enough to feel it. With Mercury going retrograde on the 13th you’ll have to pay extra attention to how and what you communicate, but if you stay present and intentional it’ll be a piece of cake, babe.

Power Ballad: Flip Fantasia – US3

GEMINI

May 21-June 21

It’s only a struggle if you keep on fighting, Twin Star. In your present frame of mind you may slip into wanting to be right, or to win, instead of just dealing with your life in the healthiest way possible. If you engage with bullshit then you’re likely to have it splatter all over (gross, sorry), and that just stinks. The best way to avoid it to not try and outsmart your opponent, but instead to refuse to engage in crazy conversations.  If things don’t make sense and you’ve said your piece, don’t stick around trying to convert fools to your way of thinking, ‘cause that just turns you into a fool, too. The embodiment of wisdom requires knowing when it’s time to let go, and when it’s time to forge ahead, and you need it by the barrel full, this month. It’ll require paying a little less attention to what you think others think of you, and a lot more attention to where you’re actually at. You’ve been working hard and getting through some old crap that was holding you back, and now you may find that people don’t know where to place you. You don’t need to explain yourself to anybody, but it wouldn’t hurt you to be a better communicator with the important people in your life. May’s Mercury Retrograde cycle is happening right in your sign (you lucky dog), and if you aren’t careful you’ll have to deal with fallout from poorly handled connections. The good news is that you’re freaking awesome, and potentially on the way to a whole new phase of life that is more you than the one you’re coming out of. Werk, gurl.

Power Ballad: Mambo Italiano – Sophia Loren

CANCER

June 22-July 22

Letting go of control is never easy, even if you know in your heart of hearts that it’ll be OK. It’s especially hard because often our strongest instincts get blasted out by our strongest emotions- making it hella hard to know what to trust. Instead of getting stressed out by all the shit you can’t understand or fix, try getting organized this month, Moonchild. Forget about what you don’t know, ‘cause obsessing on that will only make you bonkers. Align yourself instead with what you do know – what’s working, what isn’t, and what you can do about it. In regards to what isn’t working, make a list of short-term things you can do to improve or change your situation, and a second list of long-term stuff that needs to get done. The point is to regain control of your insides by wrangling your relationship to your external and internal stressors. It won’t magically change anything, but it will help reduce your suffering, which will allow you to get a better handle over your affairs. This month is a great time for your finances, so if you have a chance to make an extra buck, please do so. It’ll be easy come/easy go if you’re not careful, so thank the Goddess and all her friends that Nasty Gal has Money magic spray in stock, ‘cause you need it for reals, bae. Magnify what you’ve got by keeping an even flow between a state of Zen-like gratitude, and a Suze Orman grasp on your bottom line. There are big themes trying play themselves out in your career sphere so don’t get distracted by the little ones. It’s cool if you need to take a hit for now if you believe it’ll come around and feed you in the future. Just take chances you can live with, darling heart.

Power Ballad: Why Don’t You Do Right - Peggy Lee

 LEO

July 23-Aug. 22

Your friends are where it’s at this month, stunner. The communities that you’re connected to are an excellent place to find yourself, get support, make the connections you need. You will also be able to help out the bitches you adore, all in one. Hazzah! So please take the hint that this isn’t the time to hide out with your boo, or let your ambitions obscure your need for others. Your career is in an awesome place, and you’re capable of making meaningful strides ahead this month. And while I encourage you to kick some ass in the boardroom (or wherever you to make shit happen), don’t do it at the expense of real-life networking, friend making, and the exchange of good old-fashioned kindness. The pursuit of power and accomplishment shouldn’t come at the expense of these things, even if that means you have hella innovative. If you find that you’re stuck and can’t see your way forward, you’ll do well to ask others for help and perspective. It’s easy to see things from a limited point of view when you’re too attached to the outcome, so take a step back if you can. With Mercury going retrograde on the 13th you’ll need to be extra careful in the second half of May about your interpretations of what’s going on around you. With all this pressure to get ‘er did, this isn’t the best time for sass and romance. It’s not that it can’t happen, as much as that you need to be careful that it doesn’t mess with your focus. Let the love in your life take a supportive role.

Power Ballad: You’ve Got A Friend – Carole King

VIRGO

Aug. 23-Sept. 22

If you don’t play safe this month it’s just self-sabotage, not real indulgence. You deserve fun, Virgo! And not the kind that has so many repercussions that it costs you more than it gives you, either. It’s time to pursue the people and things that bring you lasting joy, instead of fleeting distractions. That might mean you have to let some bitches go before you can move upwards and onwards, but them’s the breaks. The point is that you prioritize your own happiness, because you deserve it - no explanations, defenses, or excuses; the end. If your loved ones can’t have your back for that, then it’s time for change. Your relationships need to shift, that much is for sure, and it’s on you to avoid being a jerk or a martyr in the process, bae. Don’t stay in the game if you can’t play nice. That’s easier said than done, as you’ve been struggling with inertia and waiting for the fates to make your choices for you. The stars are here to help you break your blocks, but it won’t happen on it’s own. Reconnect with your long view, both personally and professionally. The two parts of your life are meant to reinforce each other, and during this Mercury retrograde cycle is an oddly great time for you to figure out a game plan about it. Whether it’s a relationship that you’ve outgrown, or a habit you’ve gotta break, it’s on you to be the change you want to see in your life. The rewards will totally outweigh the effort, I promise.

Power Ballad: Miss Cleo – Dwayne Milan

LIBRA

Sept. 23-Oct. 22

Speak your mind, Libra! Get clear about what you think by getting stuff off your chest, cuz if you over-think things in a vacuum, you’ll be absolutely miserable. There’s a huge and important difference between obsessing on every little detail and anticipating the worst, versus being well informed, and knowing what time it is. Your mind may be in overdrive trying to figure life out, but that’s unlikely to be a productive approach. Concentrate on the truthiest truth you know, Libra. I’m talking about the distilled heart of it all, the stuff that you are absolutely certain of. When you get down to the essentials you’ll be better equipped to figure out what’s real and what’re just details you’re allowing yourself to get distracted by. How you handle stress this month is wicked important, because it’ll make everything way better or much, much worse. If you’re in too big of a rush you’ll reach conclusions that are half baked, see. So calm down and have faith that you can figure out your next moves in time. Resist all urges to blast through the foundation laying phase that you’re in, or what you build won’t be solid; that’d suck so hard, ‘cause what you build now is gonna last, Libra. Even if your loved ones don’t understand what you’re doing, now is the time to trust your self. One of the very few nice things about a Mercury retrograde (it starts the 13th FYI) is that it points us away from planning and processing by making it trickier to do. Take this Mercury cycle as your call to go deep within, and scheme, and dig, until you hit gold.

Power Ballad: I’ve Got To Be Me – Michael Jackson

 SCORPIO

Oct. 23-Nov. 21

The gorgeous thing about happiness is that it radiates all around you. It feeds you, the people you touch, and the things you do. The truth is, sadly, that most of us don’t really want to be happy. We don’t wanna be unhappy, but wanting to avoid pain is very different than resonating with success. Investigate all of the ways that staying stuck, small, or Scrooge-like are serving you (even if they’re bumming you out). Cultivate a better understanding of your subconscious motivations so you can rewire them, if need be. The reason why I urge you to do this is because of all the steaming hot good vibes that are pounding at your door. Will you hear it over the sounds of all your internal distractions? Would it change your identity to be super happy with no dramas to hold you back? Really think about this stuff, Scorpio, especially in the first half of May, so that you are more receptive to the excellence that’s coming your way later in the month. Your love life may feel on hold, or like it’s treading water, but luckily it’s not a permanent state of affairs - it’s just so that you focus on what needs tending to. Find other creative channels if you can, and focus on making yourself happy so you can manifest a beloved from that place. If something does start up this month just be wary of false starts; don’t overextend yourself for someone you’ve just met, or count your chickens before they’ve hatched. Something wonderful is coming for you, but you’re gonna have to be patient enough to resist the urge to shut down or self-sabotage before it gets here. Follow your gut instincts and you’ll be fabulous, gurl.

Power Ballad: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper

SAGITTARIUS

Nov. 22-Dec. 21

Your sign isn’t known for it’s love of limits, sweet Saggi. The kindest way for the Universe to teach you where your breaking point is at, is to give you a chance to make call when you start to feel so over things. Well she did that, but did you listen? ‘Fraid not. Your tendency to ask more and more of your self, and to leave dealing with the consequences later on, is alive and kicking, my friend. Sort out your head so you can deal with what needs to get done, like a damn #girlboss. You won’t feel calm if you leave yourself hanging, so keep your focus and manage your time wisely. The more you can get accomplished before Mercury goes retrograde on the 13th (in your opposite sign, no less), the better. What’d be ideal is if the first half of May could be your time for kicking ass, and then the second half of the month your time for gettin’ some ass. Be open without an agenda, and you may find that love, sex, and play are available to you in some surprising packages. Notice how you’re so set in your ways that you’re not open to things looking differently than they have in the past, or you than you think they “should”. The thing about love is that it’s supposed to nurture and support you, so make sure the folks you’re in love relationships with are able to do just that. If you find yourself frustrated or restless check in with your sweetie. If you have to change the other person in order to get your needs met it’s a bad deal; make choices that are sustainable without total transformation, or it just may be time for revolution.

Power Ballad: What’s Up – 4 Non Blondes

CAPRICORN

Dec. 22-Jan. 19

Your identity needs to catch up with what you already know but are hemming and hawing over, Cappy. Instead of worrying about how things are going to play out, try seeing what everybody else sees– that you totally have this. Your desire for certainty is getting in the way of you actually having it, so prepare for some major growth or a total pain in your hiney this month. Stop pretending you don’t know what’ll come next, and forget about watering down your confidence. It’s not arrogant to know your worth, and it’s not cute to waste your time trifling with shit that is beneath you. Embrace your fierceness without compromising on humility; that means owning your shit while still listening to others, and when/if you screw up, take the time to not only say you’re sorry, but to mean it. if things aren’t perfect that’s OK, you just gotta keep on keepin’ on, Cap. There’s so much dynamic energy in the Stars for you this month, and that may play out in your dating life or in your ability to make and do things creatively. Watch out especially around the 9th for major triggers to the Stress Express, and try to stay as calm and measured in your responses as possible.

Your work life needs attention this month as you figure out how to manage your opportunities and goals. Don’t take on too much, but instead figure out what the highest impact things you can do are. It’s all about working smarter, not harder, my friend. That’ll take balance between listening to others, trusting your instincts, and going with the flow of your life.

Power Ballad: I’m Gonna Be – The Proclaimers

AQUARIUS

Jan. 20-Feb. 18

You’ve got to give something up to get what you want next, even if letting go is a total boner. The good news is that just because it’s not coming easy, doesn’t mean it’s not coming, Aquarius. It’d be smart to gather up your energy and see how you can best conserve it for the road ahead. You’ve got a lot of shit to do, and because it’s all important stuff to you, you’re unlikely to have an light attitude about it. Adopt some structure to your goals so that you don’t run out of time, or misuse it en route to greatness. If you’re going to successfully make the kind of changes you want it’ll take helluv effort, so make peace with that part right now. The biggest risk I see for you this May is that you fight yourself on the shit you’re gonna do anyways. So try for the easy way, bae. If you have the right attitude you can get things done in a way that doesn’t break you. It may be way easier said than done, but good work if you can get it. This isn’t a great time to pick up new work, or start new projects because of how you’re feeling, but if you have to, then make sure you pace yourself through making first impressions. If you lead people to believe that you’re the kind of hooker that’ll come in early and stay late, fools will expect you to keep that up long-term. So create expectations you can reasonably live with, and do your best within that framework. When it comes to love there’s lots of opportunity to get your hands (and other parts) dirty this month. Clarify what you want – love, sex, courtship, whatevs – and make sure that your actions are consistent with those desires. Follow through with your vision and you’ll have it made.

Power Ballad: Bat Out Of Hell – Meatloaf

PISCES

Feb. 19-March 20

The things you’re sad about may suck a bit, but they are knowns. There’s no mystery to them, and there are likely to be any huge surprises around them, either, so don’t let them trip you up too much or slow you down. You are about to have some serious action, and while that’s good news you’re going to have be decisive and get shit done, which is kinda a pain in the ass. Luckily it’s nothing you can’t handle, but the question is whether or not you want to. It would be wicked awesome it you could take a holiday and peace out of your life, but I’m afraid that’s not possible for most of you. take a much needed break whenever you can, staycation style. Give yourself the gift of unplugging from your life and being totally, blessedly unavailable once a week in May. Use that time to recharge and reconnect with your raison d’etre, Pisces. When it comes to work you’ve just gotta trust your instincts. You’re meant to make changes that support where you want to be in the big picture – not just make things easier on yourself for now.

Love is a whole other matter this month, I'm happy to say. If you can get over all the other crap that’s distracting you, you’ll find that there are people who like and love you, and just wanna be around you. allow yourself to enjoy people on your own terms. Trade in kindness, play, and collaboration, my friend. People don’t have to be a burden when you’re upfront about your needs. Be straightforward and you’ll be pleased with the results.
